Marc Salinas defended a new mother in contempt proceedings arising from one of the most difficult kinds of family law cases - an international custody dispute.
The client was going through a divorce in the Probate and Family Court following a short marriage in the United States that had produced one child. Her divorce was especially difficult: born overseas, she had no family in the United States to support her, while her husband was accompanied by numerous family members at every court hearing. A temporary order permitted Marc’s client to travel internationally with the child to visit her family. After leaving the country, she did not return to the United States and fought the case from half-way across the globe.
Marc represented the client in the domestic contempt proceedings that followed. Despite what appeared to be a clear violation of the court's orders, he negotiated a highly favorable settlement under which the client was permitted to reside permanently abroad with her child.
